Reflection (Blooms)
3 + hours

Reflect on this weeks assignments. Continue throughout the semester

This week we first determined our group roles and then met as a group via Google Communities.  The purpose of our meeting was to discuss this week’s tasks and assignments. Kim and I also met via Google Hangout to discuss up coming assignments and to create a “To Do” list.

After our meeting it was clear there was a laundry list of “To dos” and yet I am still wrapping my head around the course itself.  This week our group focus was on:
  •  Creating a team website;
  • Bios for Team Website ;
  • Providing our link for the 8095 Journal/Reflection website.
  • Project Manager (Rick) Post the team's 15/5s  on Team Think Tank's site.
  • Finish team website and screencast (Heidi)

We also met to discuss the group members’ strengths and weaknesses.  Based on the areas we felt we may be able to contribute the most the group we refined our roles:

Team Think Tank

  •       Project Manager: Rick
  •       Lead Instructional Designer: Kim
  •      Lead eLearning Developer: Heidi
  •     Lead Evaluator: Rick
  •     Lead Team Site Manager: Heidi

This week I created the group website to document our progress on the project. The website was designed for ease of access for the client, providing them clear links to their project description and overview (Making Thinking Visible with Technology). It was also determined this week that our group will be working closely with Dr. Mims in creating with the Making Thinking Visible with Technology Website.  The website is in its infancy at this point, but the goal is develop it as an online professional development resource and database of lesson plans.  This website will serve as a valuable resource for the many educators around the world involved in implementing Visible Thinking in their classrooms and schools.  We also included tabs (to the pertinent links) on the website for ease of access and group member reference.   Rick will also be positing our 15/5s.

This week we had to create a team website and screencast of its overview. I also had to create my reflection journal to document my growth throughout the semester. Reading from the text was also required.  Managing E-Learning, Chapter 2 and questions had to be posted in the Google Community. I also had the opportunity to ask question to the “old timers” ( or former students who completed this course). It was interesting and helpful to gain their insight and recommendations. Assignments were completed to the best of my ability.

Having a comprehensive website for our group progress was extremely important. At this point, it is quite basic, but as the semester progresses the site will develop into a comprehensive resource full of information. We have not had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Mims yet, but I am looking forward to discussing his goals and expectations for the website.  I am still unclear on many of the terms used, but I am confident that after more reading I will have a greater understanding of the material.   In fact, I’ve found that applying what I’ve read to our project has allowed me to fully grasp the concept.

Last Spring I was part of the team that created the University of Memphis IDT Site for incoming students.  It was a great opportunity to work with fellow students in the program.  It also made me quickly recognize the importance of communication and collaboration in a project like this. I hope that our team increases its communication throughout this project. It is difficult to move forward with a task when we are consistently waiting for a response.   I believe that overall communication is key to success in relationships in your workplace, school, and throughout your lifetime. Ultimately, communication is what is going to make or break our project.

Creating and communicating the expectations will be a vital part of our project. As a group we need to determine a set time via Google Hangouts to discuss our progress and discuss our goals, concerns or any confusion. I do not like to leave things until the last minute and prefer to avoid the stress and anxiety associated with waiting too long to complete tasks.  Certainly, I recognize group members each have their own unique work habits, but we all must be cognizant of the deadlines and communicate our commitment to the project to other group members.

I am still gathering my thoughts on what initiating the project is and the project in its entirety.  I purchased a subscription last semester to telastream which cost $100.00 (!!). However, when I went to publish the screen cast it was marked with a watermark and it forced me to buy another upgrade, which was extremely aggravating. It took me two hours of trying to remove the watermark demo and I gave in and purchased the upgrade. I am curious if there are any free programs offered. This program does offers a lot of options but for the purpose of presenting our website I feel that I could use a more simplistic user-friendly program. As I stated before, we need to meet as a team and respond on a consistent basis.  I am still unclear and overwhelmed with the project, but I guess at this point that is to be expected.

As a team I think we should create a checklist so that we stay on task.  Our Google Communities is a great form of communication for the team. I think I will try to create weekly discussion categories so it is more organized. Taking three courses this semester and Stats II being one of them it is important that I manage my time effectively. If I don’t understand something I often spend a lot of time trying to figure it out when I should simply just ask since time is of the essence. I really like having a checklist on the syllabus!!!!!!!!
